Needs Doing for iPhone and Mac

Last updated 11 September 2026

In short: Needs Doing doesn't collect any information about you. Your list stays on your devices and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud account, where only you can see it. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.

Who makes Needs Doing

Needs Doing is made by Andy Aiken, an independent developer. If you have a question about this policy, email andy.aiken@live.co.uk.

What Needs Doing collects

Nothing. Needs Doing has no servers of its own, and nothing you put into it is sent to me or to anyone else. It doesn't include analytics, advertising or tracking code, or any third-party code that collects data.

Where your tasks are kept

Notifications

The daily digest ("3 tasks for you today") is worked out and scheduled on your device. Needs Doing also receives silent notifications from iCloud, which only tell it that something changed on your other device so it can fetch the update. None of this passes through a server of mine.

Widgets

The Needs Doing widgets read your list from your device to show it on your Home Screen, Lock Screen or desktop. They don't send it anywhere.

Contacts, location and other permissions

This version of Needs Doing doesn't use your contacts, location, photos, camera, microphone or any other personal information. The only permission it asks for is to send notifications, and it works fully if you say no.

A future version may let you share a list with people in your household. That feature would use your contacts, and only on your own device, to show their names and pictures. This policy will be updated before any such feature is released.

Deleting your data

Children

Needs Doing doesn't collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated first and the date at the top will change.
